Father’s Day 2021
I was thinking about what I should write in my blog today and I realized that I had more to post than I originally planned. When I decided to just be myself and get over the intimidation of just posting a blog…(which took about a week btw). I knew what I wanted to write about. I don’t want to go on about the problems that I faced this morning when I was trying to get my 12 year old out of bed, but wow that was a challenge! We made it to church in one piece. With the effects of Covid still lurking, church attendance has been down so I had my two boys in class today. It was laidback and they enjoyed being in class with me. I remember being embarrassed because both of them decided to talk about toilets and bowel movements during class one Sunday. I asked my son why he was misbehaving and he said ” Mom, I just feel comfortable because it’s only us!” He was just being honest with me and I had to learn to lighten up. I taught them about Daniel in the Lion’s Den this morning. After I discussed and read scripture to them, we talked about God’s love for Daniel. Through all of Daniel’s trials, which included 70 years of persecution…I thought my life is actually ok. I’m going to be fine. I learned along with my sons, that God has always been in our corner. He has always been fighting for us. It takes faith and trust on our part to really see his blessings and love. Sometimes, we must go through trials in life to make us stronger in our faith. I have been able to engage with the children better using The Action Bible http://www.theactionbible.com. There are illustrations by Sergio Cariello who worked for Marvel and DC Comics. The kids enjoy it because they can really see the stories of the Bible come to life. I have found them to be consistent for an overall view of each story. I always go back to my Bible to give them the full detailed chapters/verses. The Action Bibles have also been donated with The Voice of The Martyrs mission outreach to children. I have been printing some resources online, including a word search that we used this morning. I used footnotes on notecards and found this to be helpful, especially while the kids were completing activities. We discussed the meaning of perseverance and trusting God through trials. I knew that God was calling me to teach the children at our church and my Pastor happened to call me and express the need. This wasn’t a coincidence. I didn’t think that I had what it took to teach them. Sometimes, God has other plans. He is showing me each day that I can use my talents for him. It’s ok to be afraid but we must persevere. Daniel was courageous and an excellent example of faith over fear.
We went and had lunch with my father, who I am especially grateful for today. Happy Father’s Day!

This is an example of some of http://persecution.com/packs the projects the kids and I have been working on. The kids in my class were instrumental in helping with the Action Packs (photos above) that we are sending to VOM “Voice of The Martyrs”. The boys and I read a magazine we received a few months back and decided to participate. There is an option to buy a pre-filled action pack but the kids wanted to fill their own. The packages go directly to persecuted Christian families from the VOM Headquarters. Some of the families have lost loved ones or have no personal belongings. They are in need of basic items and there is an option to include a ball for the children to play with. To help the kids feel more involved, we included some drawings for the families. The package includes a return mail sticker and a plastic bag with instructions.
This is a list of the items requested for the the packages:
- Twin Size Sheet ( I purchased this one : https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Easy-Care-300-Thread-Count-Cotton-Rich-Percale-Grey-Twin-Twin-XL-Fitted-Sheet/364443728)
- Heavy Duty Tarp 8’x10′ or larger ( I had trouble finding these at Walmart for the right size so I went to Harbor Freight.)
- Pack of Zip Ties
- Small Blanket ( I purchased a fleece blanket from Walmart for 5 Bucks)
- Bar of Soap
- Foam/sponge ball
Optional Items
- Photos/Scripture
- Gallon Zip Plastic Bags
- Towels
The kids enjoyed helping and I thought it was a good idea to help them realize a small act of kindness can make a world of difference in someone’s life.
