Step 3: Clean the lockers with an all-purpose cleaner or degreaser (a bucket is helpful), scrubbing any rusted spots with a stainless-steel scrub or green pad, wipe clean, let the lockers air dry or wipe dry with a cloth

Step 4: Prime the surface if needed by softening high gloss areas of the metal (ex. Give the lockers more of a matte finish especially in the areas you would like to distress)

Step 5: Tape off any metal appliques, labels, and door handles

Step 6: Begin spray painting the lockers according to the directions on the paint can, working in a sweeping motion, let dry between each coat

Step 7: Brush a magic eraser across the lockers to rid them of any pilling paint residue, you can also use the magic eraser to remove areas of paint you would like to show as distressed

Step 8: Begin distressing the outer corners of the lockers, around the door handles or anywhere you would expect distressing to occur

Step 9: Let the distressing oil dry and apply more if needed, remove the painter’s tape after the lockers have dried thoroughly, line the inside with contact paper if desired

Step 10: Let your kids load them up with their bookbags, shoes, jackets, decorate them with magnets and make them their own! Enjoy your new old school hall tree 😊
